I tried it again from a computer that had a wired connection to the hub where the ObserverIP is, and your backdoor method worked! Thank you very much.

How did you extend the temp humidity sensor lower down below the fan.
Got my temp humidity sensor today.

There's a plastic wrap on the sensor
I am amazed how it senses the temp with this thing on or may be its some other stuff .

CR1400IP, welcome to the crazy crowd.  :-)

You need nerves of steel and a good soldering iron.
Unfortunately I did not take pictures of how I did the extension but I used your pictures to show what I did.
I got me some of these.

I then removed all the shields and unsoldered the Temp and Hum sensors. Using a large side cutter, I cut the board on the line shown. Do this on the board in the unit, not your new cable.  :-)

Scraped the copper tracks clean and soldered the header in place.

I then cut the plug off of the end of the cable and solder the pins on. Hot glue then covered all of the solder joints for moisture and to provide added protection where the cable joins to the pins so that it does not break from repeated bending.
If I ever want to remove the add-on, I would just solder the sensors directly onto the pins and plug it into the header.

I used a red marker to mark one side of the cable (temp sensor side) as well as the PCB to keep the orientation correct.

WS-2902 Questions

I am considering purchasing the WS-2902 and, this being my first true "weather station" (vs a simple remote outdoor sensor that reports just temperature), I have a few questions before I jump in and spend that much money on something I'm totally new to (over $100 purchases require approval from the treasurer - i.e. the wife  ).

(Sorry this became a wall of text!)

Question 1:
Looking at the product description at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5TEHLI/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2I091Y2GSAING&colid=2A5AGCC20XO30, it says this under "Wireless Specifications":
Quote
Requires 2.4 GHz router. If you own a dual band router, you will need to connect your mobile device to the 2.4 GHz band. This often requires temporarily switching off the 5 GHz band.

I have a dual band router, but I'm not clear on what is meant by "you will need to connect your mobile device to the 2.4 GHz band". What mobile device is this referring to? The weather data receiver? A phone that would access the weather data that is being reported by the weather station?

Then the part about "temporarily switching off the 5GHz band". The answer to my question above about the 2.4 GHz comment may answer this, but I'm not clear on how/where one would "switch off" a 5 GHz band.

How easy/hard/complicated is the WiFi connection setup process overall?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a complete home WiFi idiot, I just want to be clear on what is being said and what needs to be done.

Question 2:
Placement
Would it be okay to place the sensor unit itself at the peak of my garage? I have a single-story house, so aside from trees, it would be at the highest point in my yard there. Will the dark shingles throw off the temperatures significantly? Would raising the unit up a bit on a mast help? I'm not terribly concerned about extreme accuracy, so if it's within maybe 2-3 degrees difference I'm fine with that.

Question 3:
Mounting
Does the product come shipped with everything needed for mounting or will I need to purchase a mounting kit separately?

What is happening with my 1400

The observer module can't receive my outdoor signal from time to time. It only happened lately. No such problem during the first 2 months.

Would appreciate any suggestion.

Looking at the data, it looks like you are receiving data when it is daylight and getting power from the solar array.
Check your log to see if there is pattern.

One or more batteries might have failed. Try replacing them

Those look good. I would go with better %. Also with a pack of 10, you can test them all and pick the best ones.  :-)

Just following up on this one. I ended up purchasing these replacement thermistors for my WS-1001 outdoor unit - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10pcs-NTC-Thermistor-10K-ohm-1-B3950-L75mm-Wired-/391827074025?

Got a friend of the old mans to solder them in and the unit is now measuring temps in a whole lot more accurate manner. Previously I was measuring up to 10°C too high but now is reading a little low if anything. Will make adjustments to calibration from indoor unit and see what happens from there.

Thanks to @dupreezd for their invaluable advice with this  =D>

WS-HP2K-1 exactly the same as Ambient Weather 1001 Wifi ?!?

Hi All,

Newbie here:

I have bought a Ambient Weather 1001 Wifi clone, called 'MiSol WS-HP2K-1'. Seems to work fine and is uploading to WeatherUnderground...

In the About page on the device it reports:

Model: HP2000
Storage: 3844MB
Hardware revision 2.0
OS version: 3.1.5
Firmware: 2.3.8
Frequency: 433m

Can I use the 2.4.3 firmware (Date Jun 27th 2017) that I found:

https://ambientweather.wikispaces.com/ws1001-wifi

Or will that immediately brick my unit?

Also, I have found a EasyWeatherIP version 3.2 software and I can read my station's values. Is a newer version available anywhere?

Thanks!

Fredster, welcome to the forum.

I can't answer your questions as I have a WS1200-IP, but this is what I do regarding updates.

With any update, there is a risk of something going wrong. Most of the time it works flawlessly, but there is Murphy's law  :-(
I read what the update is for, then ask these two simple questions.
1. Does this update fix a problem that I have?
2. Does it provide any new features that I will use?

If the answer is no for both, I don't upgrade.

Hope this help

My adult daughter's Ambient WS-1400-IP became a victim of a near-by lightning strike a bit over a week ago.  Not a direct hit, but it killed the transmitter section on the sensor array.  With Ambient's out-of-stock situation on the replacement sensor array and the previous release of the WS-2902 station (Fine Offset WH-2900), I already figured that a replacement to the 5in1 sensor stack was at hand.  I liked what I saw in the WS-2902 sensor package (ie the offset of the sensors from one another and the larger anemometer) and the price was nice.  On the Fine Offset page, I noted that Fine Offset also offered a version of the Osprey sensor package WITHOUT the display using what Ambient sells as the ObserverIP, which my daughter already owned from the WS-1400-IP.  FYI we also have a Meteobridge server between the ObserverIP and the internet so as to serve more than just WU and Ambient's site.

So, we made a decision to gamble a bit by ordering the Ambient WS-2902 station in hopes that it would communicate with her existing ObserverIP.  Worst case, the WS-2902 had the ability to send out via WiFi to several hosting sites from its display.

While the WS-2902 sensor array is all plastic, it is nicely executed and an improvement over the older 5in1 array.  On power, it immediately connected to the ObserverIP and I thought all was well, until I discovered NO anemometer readings.  I rebooted the sensor stack, and the ObserverIP but same, no anemometer, situation.  As the anemometer WAS reporting to the supplied display unit, I knew it was not the anemometer itself.  FYI, I was running firmware 4.1.9 on the ObserverIP which had been the latest only a few days ago.  On a lark, I checked Ambient's site and discovered version 4.2 firmware for the ObserverIP had been released with a number of bug fixes, so it was worth a try.  Not sure exactly what was fixed, but with version 4.2 installed and set to WS-1400-IP as the station type, ALL the readings went LIVE!  I did discover that the anemometer on the WS-2902 is a 2 pulse / rev vs the older sensor stack's 1 pulse / rev, but that was easily corrected in the ObserverIP calibration (ie factor set to .5).  We had never been totally happy with the wind vane and anemometer setup on the WS-1400 sensor stack as the anemometer reacted poorly at low wind speeds and it influenced the wind vane as it spun.  The WS-2902 obviously corrected the wind vane issue and I have found that it is WAY more damped than the old wind vane (ie less perturbed by minute variations in wind direction especially at low wind speeds).  The WS-2902 anemometer is WAY more sensitive to low wind speeds properly registering even well below 1MPH where the old WS-1400 stack would just stop at around 3-4MPH.

Really happy with the WS-2902 and glad I played my hunch that the ObserverIP would properly receive the sensor signals.  This also gave my daughter a nice color display for only $20 more than Ambient wanted for the replacement sensor array for the WS-1400!

I have to admit, the AcuRite Atlas Elite had it been shipping would have been a temptation, but AcuRite's older 5in1 system certainly does not inspire confidence, based on user feedback that the Elite will not have issues. It is obvious that they are aiming at the Davis Vantage Pro2 and I would assume at a lower price point.  However, should the Elite live up to expectations, it may well be the unit to own!

To access the files on the ws-1001 via USB on Windows 10 proceed as follows:-

Go to "Services" and look for "Windows mobile 2003 device based connectivity".  Double click on this and click "logon". Change  to "Local system account" and tick "Allow service to interact with the desktop.

Go back to "Services" and do the same for "Windows Mobile based device connectivity".

Reboot the PC.

If you now look in "This PC" you should see a new item "Compact" which when opened will show the Ambient console contents.

It is not necessary to download WMDC.  It is already installed as part of Windows 10.

There are two screws at the bottom of mine that I had to remove. Take note of the order. The bottom two are solid. The next three have a hole in them.

Looking at the bottom of the radiation shield, this is what you will see. Remove those two screws.

WS-1002-WIFI display, software

Hello.  I recently bought an Ambient Weather WS-1002-WIFI.

I'm concerned about the display being on 24/7.  Is there someway to turn it off?

Has anyone come up with better software than EasyweatherIP 3.1?

Thank you.
