Noticing that my Osprey afternoon temps are spiking a few degrees in the afternoon; any ideas on how to put a radiation shield on it? the SRS100LX is incompatible, it seems.

Upgrade radiation shield for WS-2902

Re: Upgrade radiation shield for WS-2902
It's a bummer that the shield isn't compatible with your shield, however I would say you have at least a couple of options. If you have some spare money on the side, I would say that buying or building a stevenson screen would be your best bet all together.
Building a stevenson screen discussion: https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=32328.0
Buying a stevenson screen kit (here is just one option of several possible): https://www.amazon.com/LABGO-Stevenson-Screen/dp/B016A120V4
If you are wanting to save money, you could check out a much less expensive way of building a radiation shield. This discussion came from someone using the same station that you have: https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=32589.0
I hope this helps!

Re: Ambient Ws-1001 Failures - Anyone else
I'm on my third unit in just over 5 years. Mine have failed at about the 18 month mark.
↧
Re: Ambient Ws-1001 Failures - Anyone else
That sure seems to be a real problem. I really like the units, but the long term reliability leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Ambient Ws-1001 Failures - Anyone else
My WS-1001 has been up and running since February 2015 and has never failed, but I've had a few connectivity issues that weren't too difficult to resolve. I think I've had the same set of rechargeble Ni-Cad batteries in the unit for the whole time.

Re: Replacement parts for Ambient Weather WS-1001 Clone - Maplin N23DQ
Finally!! the sensors arrived.
I bought two, just in case..... and also bought a set of bars with pins and connectors.
Now is just a matter of disassembly the outdoor unit and try to find out how to solder the wires in the correct order...... let's see if I'm able to do it.

WH2C Transmission timing drift
I have a couple of WH2Cs, reporting downstairs and upstairs temperature and humidity values to my energy control and monitoring system via a Raspberry Pi with some custom code. The other morning, I noticed that they had both simultaneously stopped reporting at just after 4:30 am. Each of the sensors report their readings almost exactly every 48 seconds, but there is some (very slight) drift. To cut a long story short, it turned out that the transmission timing of the two sensors had drifted in such a way that their transmission times had become close enough to simultaneous that their signals overlapped and could not be separated from each other or decoded). Because the drift is very slow, the problem does not resolve itself within any reasonable time (it had persisted for 6 hours when I noticed it), and you have to restart one of the sensors (by removing and replacing its batteries), at which point everything works again. This, of course, changes the ID of the restarted sensor. I can't think of any long-term fix for this, but am posting mainly as a 'heads up' for others who may find themselves in a similar situation. Suggestions on a postcard....?!

Re: Replacement parts for Ambient Weather WS-1001 Clone - Maplin N23DQ
So, here we go...
I removed the radiation shield to try to find out how to install the new sensor, since it has a completely different shape.
![]()
First I thought that I would just to insert it in the slot that the old sensor was (I just had to cut the two little tabs that hold the original sensor in place) but it was a bad idea for two reasons, first because I accidentally broke a small plastic piece with one of the capacitors on the back of the new sensor board, damaging the board (luckily I bought two of them), the second the reason is that the sensor was too close to the top of the radiation shield.

So, I used a flat piece of plastic to create an extension to install the sensor more or less in the same position as the original sensor was. I used hot glue to hold the piece of plastic in place and glued the top of the board to the piece of plastic. After soldering the wires I applied a coat of transparent nail lacquer to try to protect it from moisture.
Also, I was able to "save" the glue on the top, so I reused it to seal the top of the radiation shield (using hot glue to put it back in place).

Then I put everything back together ... and.... it worked! The sensor works really well, the readings seems to be very accurate.

I installed mine in Dec 2016 and have had no issues, for what it is worth. I have not replaced the batteries.

WS-2902A - Weather Underground worked for a bit then stopped?
Not sure what is wrong. I have tried to save the setting again in the tool app. But it's not updating any longer. My Ambient and Weathercloud are both working fine.
Anyone have any ideas?

It is WU. Many forum members are having the same issues.

This is recent? Dang. I guess no way to fix it then.

Re: Ambient WS-1001 Console Failure - Resolved
The console operates on 5 volts, 1 amp (1000ma) minimum. I've converted my power cable to a USB. Now I can use any USB power brick or battery source, If needed.

Re: Ambient Ws-1001 Failures - Anyone else
My station on since June 14, 2015 without changing batteries. The problems I have include my own network/modem connections and WU being down occasionally. Despite all these, my WS 1001 console has recorded all the data in real time other than when changing the battery in the barometric pressure/interior temp/humidity unit.

Re: Ambient Ws-1001 Failures - Anyone else
Yeah. WU leaves lots to be desire these days. Their servers are constantly failing and they arent maintaining it much anymore. Sadly.

WS-2902 WiFi OSPREY WiFi not active
New WS-2902A WiFi. The WiFi icon is not on when unit is activated. When I press the Rain/Alarm buttons simultaneously (for many seconds) nothing happens. The buttons work. The unit receives information from the sensor. Just the WiFi icon is not on (therefore I cannot initialize the WiFi connection). The RF icon is on.

Dual displays with the WS-1001
Out of curiosity, I ordered a 915mhz WS-1200 console from Ambient, on sale for $99. Confirmed that it works great for second display of the 1001, in another part of the house. I had to calibrate it to the readings of the main console. It logs and displays everything as the Wifi console. I'm happy with it. Especially since hurricane season is upon us again. Not sure if this can be done with the clones but importantly make sure you're matching the frequency.

Re: Ambient ObserverIP list of bugs/known issues
I noticed at midnight Pacific time today (June 12th) my ObserverIP started misbehaving. It has been "rebooting" itself constantly and only reported a dozen or so times to ambientweather.net and to my Meteobridge. It's bad enough that I generally can't even connect to its webpage.
On power cycling, I could connect to it for about 30 seconds before it locked up again and eventually rebooted.
I traced the issue to something with publishing to ambientweather.net. When I set that setting to "never", the ObserverIP s back to working correctly again and reporting data through my Meteobridge.
I contacted Ambient support and let them know what happened to me. If I hear back, I'll post the response here. If anyone else is seeing similar issues starting today, I suggest disabling your ObserverIP's reporting to Ambient Weather for the time being.

Re: Ambient ObserverIP list of bugs/known issues
We're testing an experimental new FW right now so that you'll be able to keep the other fixes and improvements made through 4.4.3 and keep publishing to AW.net. We'll let you know as soon as it is confirmed good.

Re: Replacement parts for Ambient Weather WS-1001 Clone - Maplin N23DQ
Thanks for the pics.
I might need them when mine stops working! I got the original unit replaced under warranty and so far (fingers crossed) the new one is still working. Mine is a Maplins ws1001 clone and the warranty is up in August. Maplins have now ceased trading anyway so I'm on my own for any back up. I'll just see how long I can keep it going by repairing it myself if it goes wrong.
I really bought it mainly for the anemometer function but I have found the rainfall data useful via WG when we are away to see if the garden is likely to be drying out.
