If you are really worried about sensor array components failing regularly then go for the new individual sensor arrays from the Ecowitt HP3501 and combine that with the HP2551 screen.

Just drop Lucy an e-mail at sales@ecowitt.com and say that you've been directed to them. Lucy will give you a UK shipped price.

The new individual sensors are only 6 months old in terms of release and would give you that flexibility you desire should components fail. The costs are not that bad and you may be pleasantly surprised. Currently there is no other way to get this tech in the UK.

A lot of stuff to take in!  For now I am going to repair it myself, if it works I might give it away or stick it on Ebay.  Here in the UK they are asking a ridiculous £100 just for a second hand array with no console.

I only mentioned wanting a touch screen because of the time it takes to enter a router password using buttons and if you get one character wrong you have to do it all again!  ](*,)

I still think the costs are high, even if I buy a Davis VP2 at £650, I will still have to be replacing parts every 18 months.

The real truth is I don't care about data in the way you guys do, and I don't really mind what the screen layout looks like either as long as it works to give me fairly accurate wind speed and direction.  I like the rainfall totals too.  All of this being online is great for when I'm away for a few weeks to see if my exposed (and needy) house is either flooding, baking or bits are being blown off!

One thing that does tempt me with HP2551 is the option of the soil sensors.  8-)  It would be great to know when parts of the garden are drying out in Summer if we are away.

So if I can't fix my station I may well yet be seduced by your excellent recommendations!

Hello

i read your experiences of WS1001(or Maplin version N23DQ) it all sounded so familiar my maplin version lasted less than a year right from the offset it developed problems and after one summer of high UV here in istanbul it began to turn yellow and the rim of the rain bucket began to break off three months late the wind vane crumbled into dust ! it required constant maintenance some serious issues in design and component use , under heavy fog
the condensation or dew build on the temperature circuit board was very visible when taking apart ,this caused open circuit as dew or condensation becomes conductor across various solder points its the poorly designed circuit board and lack of thought in design.

so if you can justify the cost of a Davis VP2 and do what I did prior to purchase. find a reliable human seller thats contactable via phone there are numerous good resellers and dedicated companies in the UK and present on this forum. So being abroad but I wanted to buy through a native english
speaker supplier (nothing prejudice just when it comes to being technical its good to be fluent and localized). Wherever I chose to buy through I was
going to get hit with a 35% import duty no fault of supplier , so here is what i ddi having same concerns about temperature sensor replacement and being abroad its never going to be a next day fix (shipment) . I contacted a supplier reliable one in the UK before purchasing and negotiated (haggled) if I buy the Davis VP2 would they give me a price reduction on a replacement sensor board (which is take out and plug new one in solution) it wasnt a
bad requests and neither was trying to get the best price I just wanted to buy from a reliable seller and it was more of a reassurance to me and having a spare to hand if and when needed.I got 50% off on the replacement sensor when I ordered at the same time..and its this is easy to install
https://www.davisinstruments.com/product_documents/weather/manuals/07395-243_IM_06930.pdf

i could have got everything cheaper through amazon if I had money savings best price as my motive but i wanted that reassurance in the event of issues arising , all electronics are prone to develop defects and more so due to the nature of this hobby but I can honestly say the £650 is buying you a totally different piece of equipment from the fine offset brands be it old or new ones there is a big difference .

having been exactly where you are now and yes the N23DQ is totally repairable if you have the knowledge there all regular components often can be found through RS or Farnell  and a bit of solder , my old N23DQ is still functional after many many repairs (note functional) but its data is not trustworthy by a long way ..

Its all down to the disposable income and justifying the cost and I ...

I notice my Maplins unit has turned yellow, but so far it's not degrading.  I did look on RS Components site the other day for the parts but I couldn't find the two analogue sensors I need.  I'll keep trying..

I have emailed Lucy at Ecowitt to see what the costs for their station will work out delivered to the UK.  (Thanks all!)  I haven't chosen one specifically but just told her what I need and see what she comes up with.

I would like a Davis if it is more reliable but I just can't justify that cost.

no worries m8 :-) i think under UK uv strengths you are probably ok but i used to think like that about buying a Davis then thought am I going to spend another 200-300 quid in a couple years or just find another interest..but yes I understand not everyone has the flexible disposable income and understanding wifes (i normally offer to take her shoe shopping prior to delivery  ) good luck hope you make the right choice....brian

Tons of those analog parts available on eBay from multiple sellers (all from China - no surprise). Very cheap too it's less than a $10 fix for both parts including shipping. I just searched. Fix it and sell it or donate it. Get a friend hooked and then show them how much better your new station is.

From looking at the Rain Rate it looks like it was still raining. The Event is only off by 1 click of the rain tipper gauge 0.01 inches. The system that does the tally for the Event needs to see the rain register before it can add it to the Event. It just hadn't added it yet as it is happening right then as it is still raining. I hope that makes sense. Just wait for it to stop raining and the Event total should catch up.

Ambient's definition for Rain Event:
Rain event is defined as continuous rain, and resets to zero if accumulated rainfall is less than 10 mm (0.039 in) in a 24 hour period.  Some weather stations may calculate this slightly differently and the customer should reference the User Manual.

Can you give me any direct links galfert?  I'm not sure of what I'm looking at with electrical parts.  I found the new bearings easily enough by measuring and searching.

My email to Lucy got bounced.  Can someone please check it for me?

I listed the analog parts in this post above:
https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=32189.msg370209#msg370209

And in that message I also linked to MrM1's post where he found the parts on eBay. Now MrM1's post though were direct links to a particular seller. I suggest instead to just search for the parts on eBay. Then pick the seller you like that has the best shipping for your country....etc.

Essentially these are the parts you need:
HR202L for humidity
NTC-MF52-103/3435 for temperature

Very similar to Bluestacks. It feels a bit faster than Bluestacks or at least the same. The problem with Bluestacks for this application is that it will not work because Bluestacks does not have network bridged connection capability.  Which means that when you run WS View app in Bluestacks it will not be able to see your GW1000 on your local network. Bluestacks puts your virtual Android device behind a different subnet VLAN than your local network.

Hi, our engineers are working hard on that now and the api will be available in May or June. We'll add a water leakage sensor and a ultrasonic rain gauge to the wifi weather sensor series in the future.
Can you wait for that?
Once they are available, we'll let you know.:)
Thanks for your kind understanding.
If there's any other question, please contact us at support@ecowitt.com.

I manage to send Lucy an email about the Api but luckily I found this solution. Thank Lucy for the news.
I have other few questions and I think it is better to post here for everyone rather send a private email.

I am working to get the weather data/soil moisture from remote fields and the WH6006E with 3G network is perfect. I am wondering anybody tried it before. It would be perfect if Lucy answer these questions as well :).

- How many soil moisture sensors can be attached to the WH6006E receiver?
- How long the AA battery of the WH51 soil moisture sensor last in the outdoor condition?

Thank you,

Custom experience with Nova Launcher - Gets rid of game icons

* I've not been able to get the Nova Launcher to stay as the default launcher after closing and restarting NoxPlayer. UPDATE: I found a way, read next post You can set Nova Launcher to be the default launcher and then pressing the Home button does take you to the Nova Laucher as the default but if you close NoxPlayer and open it again that setting will not be retained. To temporarily set Nova Launcher to be the default Home Screen and Launcher follow these steps:
  • Run Nova Launcher
  • Open Android Settings from the app icon (not NoxPlayer settings)
  • Select Home from Android Settings menu
  • Select Nova Launcher to be the default
  • Click Home button

How to Permanently Disable NoxPlayer Launcher and keep Nova Launcher as Default

*** It is very important that you first install Nova Launcher before doing these steps ***
  • Make sure Nova Launcher is installed
  • Go to NoxSettings (gear icon on top title bar)
  • Under the [General Settings] enable Root as a Startup item.
  • Click Save settings
  • Restart NoxPlayer when prompted
  • *** Set Nova Launcher  to be default launcher NOW (see previous post) *** You've been warned do not skip this step!
  • Open File Manager app
  • Navigate in File Manger to /system/app/Launcher/ folder
  • Click and hold on launcher_x.x_en_singned.apk file to be prompted for options
  • Select Rename and change the name to launcher_x.x_en_singned.apk.bak (x.x is just the version number, you keep that) you are basically just appending a .bak to the file name
  • Click Back button several times till you back all the way out of File Manager app. *Do not click Home button*
  • Open Android Settings app and go to Home menu and ensure Nova Launcher is still default
  • Click on NoxPlayer setting icon on top title bar
  • Uncheck Root from Startup items in General Settings section
  • Restart when prompted

After following these steps NoxPlayer Launcher should be permanently disabled and you'll have Nova Launcher greeting you all the time.

I'm a complete beginner in Python and spent many hours to figure out how to make things work using my Synology NAS. I ended up installing Python and ambient_api in Windows 10 as a virtual machine. I just wanted to leave additional information for other beginners like me.  ;)

Well that is very interesting. What did you do to get it to work with Bluestacks? I tried it and it woudn't work. When I first tried NoxPlayer it wouldn't work there either until I did the Network Bridge with Windows 10. I don't see a way to do a Network Bridge with Bluestacks. So something must be different with your setup. Are you perhaps running an older version of Bluestacks before they implemented the VLAN subnet? Are you running on PC or Mac? I'm running the latest Bluestacks version 4.70.0.2003.  To find the Bluestacks version got to Settings gear on title bar then About. I also installed in Bluestacks an app called Net Analyzer. When you run Net Analyzer app under Information you can see that the IP address the device is using is 10.0.2.15 in my case which is a separate VLAN subnet than my real network. If you run Net Analyzer what IP address is your Bluestacks using?

Looks like I am running an older version 4.60.20.1002, IP 10.0.2.15

I see you also have Smartthings, this was the main reason why I installed BlueStacks.

Running Windows 10 Pro, latest

Okay you have the same IP address as me with Bluestacks. Which means that in your case somehow your virtual network adapter is being routed to your local network. Maybe a function of the older version. Or maybe something else. Big mystery. I'll have to do some digging and testing to find the answer.

Yes SmartThings classic works. But the new SmartThings Connect does not let me log in as it crashes. I like the classic anyway as I have some custom integrations and device drivers there. I've long had Bluestacks for years only started with NoxPlayer this week for this issue of local network access. I just can't remember if I ever before needed to talk to a local network device. I now run Bluestacks for testing apps (using snapshot clones) and for running other apps that don't have equivalent on PC. Started with Bluestacks just because it was a thing to do that was cool and originally I had no real purpose for it. It's come a long way.

Weather ticker for things like % rain chance and future wind direction and speed would have to be information pulled from the Internet to be accurate using your location.

The WS2000 can communicate with the internet. The La Crosse Technology V40 Pro displays a NWS forecast and % rain chance based on zipcode. The NWS forecast is more accurate. It would be nice to see both the NWS forecast and the Ambient forecast based on current weather conditions.
