Is this only for Ambient weather stations?

I own a Davis Vantage Vue and use weewx to upload to WU

Will Ambientweather.net web site show the data of Ecowitt WH41? If the answer is yes - how do I connect? My pws is Ambientweather ws-2902.

Sorry no, I don't believe that the WS2902 can support the Air quality meter (WH41)
If you got a GW-1000 then that would support the AQM and upload the data to Ambient.net though you would have to acquire the Ambient variants I believe and not Ecowitt to do this.

The GW1000 is not available from Ambient (yet). Therefore the only option for a GW1000 is to get one from Ecowitt for an Ambient station owner. If you have an Ambient WS-2902A you can get an Ecowitt GW1000 and it would pick up your WS-2902A outdoor sensor array. But then you won't be able to upload to Ambientweather.net with this GW1000, though you'll be able to upload to Ecowitt.net obviously. You can run both the WS-2902A and the GW1000 at the same time and each will upload to their respective services Ambientweather.net and and Ecowitt.net. Only the GW1000 can see the WH41. Another option is to get the WS-2000-C display console from Ambient as that does support the WH41 and many other types extra sensors. But with the Ambient WS-2000-C you'll need to get the WH41 from Ambient as the Ecowitt version will not be seen by it.

See here for details on compatible combinations.

Every Ambient station (with Internet connectivity) is able to upload to Ambientweather.net. But there is a way for other branded stations to upload to Ambientweather.net. To do this you'll need one of two similar solutions:

  • a WeatherBridge device sold by Ambient Weather. This is essentially a Meteobridge by another name that has the added license to upload to Ambientweather.net. Since it is a real Meteobridge it supports many station brands and models. It doesn't support every station out there but for example it supports Davis and Peet Bros. and Rainwise. So check on Meteobridge compatibility with your station. If you want a Meteobridge and Ambientweather.net upload capability this is the least costly solution. But Ambient doesn't ship worldwide.
  • a regular Meteobridge that you acquired from anywhere else or even one you built can have the Ambientweather.net license added to it. It is a $160 license add-on. Then you've basically turned a Meteobridge into a WeatherBridge. In either case a Meteobridge and WeatherBridge are exactly the same. The difference is this extra license. A WeatherBridge still says Meteobridge in all the menus. It is only called a WeatherBridge by name but that name does not show up anywhere in either case. This is a good solution for those that can't buy directly from Ambient.

Delete erroneous value isn history WS-2000 ?

My WS-2000 recorded an erroneous temp value of 134 degrees. How can I remove this value from the historical data? I deleted the value from the daily data, but it still remains as the high temp recorded for the week, month, year.

Thanks. I do have GW1000, and I can see WH41 and ws-2902 in  Ecowitt.net. I was wandering if I can see the WH41 also in Ambientweather.net

Okay so that this doesn't get confusing lets not call the outdoor sensor a WS-2902A. That outdoor sensor is just half of your WS-2902A, and that outdoor sensor part is used in many models not just the WS-2902A. Therefore when referring to the outdoor part it is best to refer to it as WS-2902A sensor array, or just sensor array, or outdoor sensor, or even Osprey sensor as that was the name given to it by Ambient. It also has a part name of WS-2902A-ARRAY. Only refer to WS-2902A when you are referring to the whole thing (indoor and outdoor) as a complete station or you can say WS-2902A console when referring to just the display console. Okay just needed to get that out of the way so that we can understand each other better.

You mentioned that you have a WH41 and that the GW1000 can see it and send that data to Ecowitt.net. That is expected. What we don't know yet is if your WH41 is Ecowitt branded or Ambient branded? In either case the WS-2902A console is not designed to pick up extra sensors. The WS-2902A console can only see the outdoor sensor array and no extra sensors. Being that the Ecowitt GW1000 can't send to Ambientweather.net is would seem that there is no way for you to send your WH41 data to Ambientweather.net. Well with what you've got now the answer is no you can't. But you can get and add other hardware and then you could send WH41 data to Ambientweather.net. There are several possible solutions.

- If you have an Ecowitt branded WH41 and you want to send this data to Ambientweather.net then you'll have to get a WeatherBridge from Ambient. The WeatherBridge is a Meteobridge that has been licensed to send data to Ambientweather.net. This WeatherBridge (Meteobridge) gets data from the GW1000 and since the GW1000 can see the WH41 this is how it is possible to send this data to Ambientweather.net. Besides a WeatherBridge you could build your own Meteobridge but besides the 65 Euro license for the Meteobridge software you'll also need to add the Ambientweather.net license which is $160. Doing this turns any Meteobridge into a WeatherBridge. As you can see it is cheaper to get the Ambient branded WeatherBridge than to build your own Meteobridge and add the required licenses.
- If you have an Ambient branded WH41 and you want to send this data to Ambientweather.net then you can get an Ambient branded WS-2000-C display console. The WS-2000-C display console will see your WS-2902A-ARRAY and the WH41 (Ambient branded WH41 version only). You can also get the WeatherBridge (Meteobridge) if the WH41 is Ambient branded since you already have a GW1000.

This is one of the reasons to recommend a WS-2000 vs. a WS-2902A station. But if you purchased a WS-2902A you can easily upgrade to a WS-2000 by just buying and adding a WS-2000-C display console. You can have as many display consoles as you want. I run both a WS-2902A display console and a WS-2000 display console off the same outdoor sensor array. The outdoor sensor array is the exact same part for either the WS-2902A and the WS-2000 stations. See here for more details:

Sure.  In that debug message that the driver puts out is all the raw data from the GW1000.  I just went through that data and made sure that anything weewx could use was mapped to weewx data fields.  For my WH65B sensor array this came down to two fields, rainratein and wh65batt.  In addition, the driver has an array for unused fields which I updated for the ecowitt protocol.  Actually, there will be further changes needed in the future.  The driver will need to track firmware changes from Ecowitt.  Also, the GW1000 knows about lots of hardware that I don't have.  As people want that hardware supported, the driver will need to be enhanced.  The weewx database schema will need to be extended to use this data in weewx as well.

So, if I were to use my WH32E for outdoor temp and humidity and the WH25 for indoor temp and barometer, will they be recognized by the modified interceptor?
If not, what would be needed to get them in?

Hello all,
I'm new in this forum.
I want a weather station that pick up with Ambient Weather TX-3102 Wireless 7-Channel Soil Moisture.
Can someone tell me if the HP2551 is compatible with these sensors (915mhz).
I leave in France and it's difficult for me to have the WS-8478A.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

I am not familiar with that sensor however Ambient weather site quotes the following:
The TX-3102 is an additional sensor for the Ambient Weather WS-8482 Wireless Internet Remote Monitoring Weather Station. It requires the console and is not a stand alone product. It does not work with any other Ambient Weather models.

So the clear answer is that no this is not compatible with the Ambient WS2000 or Ecowitt HP2551 or any other Fine Offset originated weather station combo.
If you are living in France then you should not really be using a 915Mhz weather station as you might be causing interference to Mobile Phone and other services that in Europe use this band.

If you want and like the HP2551 then this will support up to 8 Ecowitt soil moisture sensors. The alternative is to purchase the GW-1000 and the soil sensors but this way you will not have a visual display to look at but will need to use the Phone app. This will be cheaper if you don't require all the other aspects of a weather station and are only interested in soil moisture.
Contact lucy at support@ecowitt.net for a quote.

You can also purchase the GW-1000 and soil sensors from Froggit in Germany which will be quicker and avoid customs etc

I contacted Ambient support and was told I needed to do a factory reset. I did the reset but the bad data remained on the Ambient Weather web site.
I again contacted support, their explanation was a reset only clears the console.I expected that to be the case . Support also said the web site stores the data for a year but provided no other other explanation.

I was able to delete the bad temp data on the web site using the process you described. However reviewing my historical data i have discovered that I lost about 2 months of data. Today I tried to edit another data point using the process described. It did not work. I have no boxes to check data points on left. (see attached screen print)

The WS-8478A and its sensors have nothing in common with other Ambient branded stations. This is because the WS-8478A is manufactured by a different company than the other Ambient branded stuff. Ambient sells hardware from a few different manufacturers and slaps the Ambient brand on everything they sell. For this reason sensors only work with the same manufacturer of the console. Their biggest sellers are the stations made by Fine Offset like WS-2000, WS-2902A.

Ambient Weather isn't the only company that does this (sell many different manufacturers stuff). Froggit also does the same thing. Therefore you need to not mix sensors that were manufactured by different companies. Ambient and Froggit don't actually manufacture anything. They just sell other companies stuff.

Thank you for your explanation of 915mhz and the no compatibility of sensor and weather station.
Very useful for me to buy my weather monitor.
Many thanks again.

Re: Using the GW1000 with Weewx in Ecowitt mode

Ok, here's the basic process.  The first thing to do is to see if the GW1000 recognizes the devices you want to add.  In this case, I'm not sure that the GW1000 recognizes the WH25.  It doesn't really need any of that data because it has built in sensors that overlap.  In addition, I find that the built in sensors are more responsive than the WH25.  The battery life of the WH25 could be better as well.  So the thing to do is to use the WS View app to see what devices the GW1000 recognizes.  Once you determine that there's more data you want the interceptor driver to collect, you can see what the GW1000 actually sends.

Following the steps in the first post, set things up to the point where you can run the interceptor driver directly.  This is the point where you can run this command (from the first post).

PYTHONPATH=bin python bin/user/interceptor.py --device=observer --mode=listen --port=8000 --debug

We're interested in the "raw data" portion of the messages.  It consists of attribute value pairs delimited by "&" characters.  This is what's needed to add the missing attributes to interceptor.py.  There are basically three steps.

First, add the missing attributes to the part of the driver that parses those attributes.  For example, here's the part where I added the eventrainin attribute.  This is in the section of code that covers the observer portion of the interceptor driver.  This puts the value of the eventrainin attribute in the rain_event variable.  You will probably find that most of the attributes are already handled in other parts of the driver.

Code: [Select]
            # firmware GW1000B_V1.4.9 (ecowitt GW1000)
            'rainratein': 'rain_rate',
            'wh65batt': 'battery',
            'eventrainin': 'rain_event',

Second, add the value to the database values returned to weewx.  Here's the section of code that returns the rain_event value.  "rainEvent" is the database value name that I chose to use in weewx.  This value didn't exist in the database and I didn't add that value to the database schema.  I just used that value for current observations.  If your data fits within the weewx database schema, you'll need to use that database value name.  If it's not in the database schema and you want to log the data in the database, you'll need to extend the database schema.  This is described in the weewx documentation, but it's a somewhat advanced topic.

Code: [Select]
        # map database fields to observation names
        DEFAULT_SENSOR_MAP = {
            'pressure': 'pressure',
            'barometer': 'barometer',
            'outHumidity': 'humidity_out',
            'inHumidity': 'humidity_in',
            'outTemp': 'temperature_out',
            'inTemp': 'temperature_in',
            'windSpeed': 'wind_speed',
            'windGust': 'wind_gust',
            'windDir': 'wind_dir',
            'windGustDir': 'wind_gust_dir',
            'radiation': 'radiation',
            'dewpoint': 'dewpoint',
            'windchill': 'windchill',
            'rain': 'rain',
            'rainRate': 'rain_rate',
            'UV': 'uv',
            'txBatteryStatus': 'battery',
            'soilMoist1': 'soilmoisture',
            'pm2_5': 'pm2_5',
            'rainEvent': 'rain_event',
        }

Third, you should add any unused attributes to the IGNORED_LABELS list.  Here's the list as it is currently.  This list keeps spurious messages from appearing in the log.

Code: [Select]
        IGNORED_LABELS = ['relbaro', 'rainin',
                          'weeklyrain', 'monthlyrain',
                          'weeklyrainin', 'monthlyrainin',
                          'realtime', 'rtfreq',
                          'action', 'ID', 'PASSWORD', 'PASSKEY', 'dateutc',
                          'softwaretype',
  'stationtype', 'baromrelin', 'maxdailygust',
  'hourlyrainin', 'freq', 'model']

That's basically it.  Depending on what data you're getting into weewx, you may need to handle it in the weewx code.  So, did this answer your question?
