Ecowiit GW1000 won't show up as devices after connected

Turned Cell data off, finally got this to connect to my wifi, as the device looks to be connected to wifi

My Android app however does not show the device under Device List OR the Stations Tab

Under Manage Ecowitt it shows my decide, when it goes out to the Ecowitt website it shows offline and no data.

This app is so frustrating in how hard it is to get this thing to work.

NEED HELP

Stations menu is only for WU stations that you save. This feature has nothing to do with talking to your GW1000. If your GW1000 is configured to upload to WU then you can add the WU ID under that Stations menu and then you can see the data from WU for that station. You can also add other WU station IDs that are not your station.

The Device List menu item only works if you are on the same local network as the GW1000. If the GW1000 is configured for that network then it should show up if your device has WiFi enabled. If your device defaults to cellular data then you will not see the GW1000 under the Device List menu. Typically you don't need to disable cellular data to view the GW1000 under Device List. You only need to disable cellular data while pairing the GW1000 to your WiFi. Once the GW1000 is connected to your WiFi then you should be able to reenable the cellular data on your mobile and the Device List should work as long as your WiFi is also enabled as the device should prefer to use WiFi if it is available. However if the WiFi is one but it has no Internet service then the mobile will then not use the WiFi and it will switch to cellular data and then you can't see the GW1000. Once you select Device List you should be able to see the detected GW1000 and it will show you its IP and MAC address. You simple select it and then you can see the live sensor data and you can do other things like manage where it uploads to whichever services and do calibration ...etc.

I believe Ecowitt Device menu is for webcams....I've never used that menu item.

Not showing up still under Device List.  Had Cell data off to make it work, before when I had cell data on it kept failing.  Says it connected, but won't show under the Device List.  Registered even on WU Underground and put all of that data in to try and see if it would talk to that website, since it is showing connected to wifi.

Nothing

Is your 5GHz WiFi off? ...as in turned off at the router?

Nothing
so they the setup process may not have been completed yet ...

the pairing process goes in a couple of steps - connected to your WIFI router/access point is the first step - then it asks for your SSID and password (no guest account will work !) -
SSIDs and passwords risk to be mistyped ...  - then it builds a GW1000 internal network and links it to your local network - only if all these steps are through
(and they will sometimes take some time - reasons can be manifold) a success message comes up and the setup page disappears - only then you can find your GW1000 in your device list.

When during the setup process a 5 GHz network of the same router is active, it won't work. If you have mesh setup, it will most likely interfere - both to be switched off during the pairing process.
Worst case scenario - a neighbor's wifi network sends at the same channel with higher power .... it cannot work. Then you would need to change the channel in your router. It doesn't happen often,
but it already occurred more than once.

Sometimes this goes in a matter of a moment, sometimes several attempts (and the proper conditions - see above) are needed. And it's most often not the WSView app's fault.
But once it's done , it's done - once and forever.  [tup] - it's worth having some patience - not everything is always under our control  8-) (see neighbor example)

WH31, Meteotemplate, FOSHK Plugin

Does anyone know how to get a WH31 temp/humitidty sensor to be displayed in Meteotemplate?

I'm currently feeding it with the FOSHK Plugin and the  iz0qwm ecowitt_http_gateway, but I'm open to changing that if necessary to get the WH31 to display.

Hi!

The data should be already made available to Meteotemplate by FOSHKplugin.
At least with the API viewer I can see all data of all WH31s here.
However, some kind of block for permanent display in Meteotemplate is apparently missing. So far I haven't dealt with Meteotemplate more intensively - my favorite is PWSDashboard.
The serious users of Meteotemplate should be able to say that better.

Regards, Oliver

I'll post on the Meteotemplate forum and see if anyone has made a block for the WH31.

I think I'll setup a PWS instance and see what I can do with it.

Thank you for the information.

What's this circular spiral thing?

Hi,

I received a job lot of the following items from Ecowitt yesterday and just going through everything in the package, it looks like each component was put into its own box separately apart from the Rain gauge and everything that the rain gauge comes with.

WH31 (Multi-Channel Temperature and Humidity Sensor)
WH32
WH40 (Rain Gauge)
WS80 (Ultrasonic Wind Speed/Direction, Solar Radiation & Light, Temperature & Humidity Sensor)
WH45 (Indoor CO2 PM2.5 PM10 Temp & Humidity Sensor)
WH57 (Lightning Detector)
GW1000 (Wifi Gateway)
WH51 (Soil Moisture Sensor)
WH41 (Outdoor PM2.5 Sensor)

One of these loose items is a metal circular spiral thing and I don't know what the purpose of it is. It isn't mentioned in the WH40 Rain Gauge manual so I am a little stumped. Please see attached image.

Does anyone know what it is and the purpose of it?

Many thanks!

Question about Ecowitt system differences

Looking through the Ecowitt website, I am seeing 2 main options, and am curious what the differnce is.
Option 1:
Purchase the following from the Ecowitt View systems
GW-1000
WS-68 anemometer
WH-40 rainfall sensor
WH-32 outdoor temp sensor
Total cost: 227.96

option 2:
GW1002 Wi-fi weather station
It looks like this includes the exact same stuff, for a total cost of 229.99.

So, is there a difference between these two options?

What about something like the HP3501 TFT?  Obviously this one adds a screen, but it still says it has Wifi connection and uploads to WU, etc.  Do I lose functionality vs a GW1000?

Just trying to make sense of the options.  Thanks in advance

I've seen his page with the WH31, I just can't find the block that he uses to display the WH31 readings.

Option 1 and 2 look to be the same. You can buy things separately or all together. Ecowitt has many combinations available so mostly look at the part numbers.

GW-1000 is nice for smartphone use and more flexibility than the GW1002. If you are looking for a display, the HP2551 is much nicer than the HP3501. I am using the HP2551 along with a GW-1000 as they are quite affordable.

The GW1000 and the GW1002 are the same console. With the GW1002 you are essentially getting a prebuilt kit that includes the same GW1000. There would technically be no difference in getting the complete kit or the parts separately.

The GW1000 and the display consoles (HP2551 and HP3501) all upload to the same online services; Ecowitt.net, WU, WeatherCloud, MetOffice WOW, and "Customized" server upload.

The biggest difference between the display consoles and the GW1000 is that the GW1000 has an extra API protocol that the display consoles do not have. This is not the same thing as "Customized" server upload. This API protocol is what allows you to see the live data on your smartphone when you are on your LAN. This is the same protocol that 3rd party applications use to get data....which is why you need the GW1000 if you wish to expand your station with said software*

The "Customized" server upload is a one destination configuration option. The data is "pushed" from the console. On the other hand the GW1000 API protocol is a "pull" method, and several applications can all query the GW1000 for data simultaneously and continuously. With the API nothing needs to be preset on the GW1000. You just use the compatible software and give the software the IP address of the GW1000 and the magic is all taken care of for you. You do not need to know how the API works.

* With full disclosure there is the option to get data without the GW1000 API protocol if you instead use the "Customized" server upload feature. But only WeeWX supports this. But I would still recommend even with WeeWX to instead use the GW1000 API protocol instead. WeeWX is but the exception that can get data either way....but I feel that the API method of the GW1000 is the better way.

The list of other software for you to consider with the GW1000 are; Cumulus MX, Meteobridge, Weather-Display, and WeeWX.
